Things you should know about Nasi Lemak here in Malaysia

Nasi Lemak is no doubt one of the most well known Malaysia food that one must try. There are different types and version of the Nasi Lemak but more unless the presentation, is almost the same.

Usually the most basic nasi lemak or nasi lemak biasa in Malay is served with sambal, hard boiled egg, fried anchovies (Ikan Biulis in Malay) and fried peanuts, and cucumber all wrapped in a sheet of banana leaf.

Then you have a choice of adding fried chicken, sambal squid (Sambal Sotong in Malays), Rendang beef or lamb, curry chicken, fried fish and others.

Different places will will have their own style and taste. Especially the sambal. Some place will tend to make it sweet and spicy. Some will be more on the sour side. And if you fancy wild boar curry, you will be lucky to find it here at Dataran C180 Cheras Balakong. Only available on weekends.

Banana Leaf Lunch at Cheras Kuala Lumpur Malaysia

What is better than having your curry and rice with some other side dishes served in a large piece of banana leaf.

Banana leaf rice is a famous Indian cuisine found mostly in Indian Restaurant. It usually come with 3 side dishes of mostly vegetable. Diner get to choose their main dishes of Curry Chicken, Fried Chicken, Fried Fish, usually "ikan Kembong" or mackerel slice "ikan Tenggiri", Fried Squid and many others.

If you do try our banana leaf here rice in Malaysia, please don't be supprise of they are no the same. Different states and place might have their own version of the banana leaf rice. One of the popular ones can be found in Jalan Masjid Jamek Kuala Lumpur, Jalan Gasing, Petaling Jaya, Bangsar Kuala Lumpur, Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur and many more.

With the steaming hot rice and curry, it brings out the favor and aroma of the banana leaf.

What's up with Durian in Malaysia

28th August 2017 - Its Durian season again here in Malaysia. The fruit that either you hate it, or you love it. 

Some said it smells like heaven, and some said it smells like rotten fish. And it gets worst when you realize that it has a creamy, mushy, watery texture as soon as you put it inside your mouth. Especially when it actually looks like, hmm you know what.

During this season here in Malaysia, you can see Durian stalls scatter along the road side especially near housing areas and country side roads.

If its your first time trying our on tasting a durianw,

these are the few tips on trying these thorny "king of the fruits"

^ First. ASK how much is the price per kilo for the type of durians. Especially if you are a foreigner, the vendors might just get the most expensive type and happily charge you heavenly price like no body's business.

There are tons of species and types of durian out there. Few of the common ones raging from the cheaper "Durian Kampung" Village Durians, D24, D101, Red Prawn " Udang Merah" or better know by the Chinese as "hung har" and "Musang King" better know by the Chinese durian vendors as "Mou San Wong" being the most premium and one of the most expensive durian out there. Price ranging from RM6 - RM8 per kilo or 3 for RM20 for "Durian Kampung". And about RM15 - RM30 per kilo for durians like the D24 or D101, And yes, when they weigh, they weigh the bloody shell as well. Do aspect an average durian to weight around 2+kg per durian.

 ^ Next is to ask the vendor to open a window in the durian on the spot before being weigh and test it by poking your finger into the "meat" itself. What you are looking for is soft, mushy, creamy texture. If its hard like as a potato, reject it and ask to open another one.

Once its weight, most stall allow you to open and eat there on the spot. Which is a good idea because you can try one first before you start grabing 2 or 3 durians and only to find out that your hated it. Another thing about eating on the spot is recommended because you can complain or exchange the durian if its not up to eatable standard and get it replaced. And also most or I should said all hotels and accommodations here in Malaysia does not allow durians in their venue. 

That's it. These are the few tips that we can think of for your durian eating experience during your visit here in Malaysia.

20th August 2017 - Genting Highlands First World Pahang Malaysia. Don't be surprise when the next time you visit Genting Highlands First World Plaza and only to realize that its completely shut down and demolished.

Well, without the main core of attraction and shopping, visitors might be bored to death, you might be wondering. Not really, with the newly build Genting Sky Avenue and the Getning Premium Outlets, visitor can now enjoy even better shopping experience here in Genting Highlands.

With the newly build Sky Way cable car that links Genting Sky Avenue to Genting Highlands Premium Outlets. Visitors can access both major shopping center easily and conveniently. Hmm, when is say easily and conveniently, still means you have to wait for a long que. Especially on weekends and public holidays.

Nothing beats a nice plate of hot "Char Kway Teow" - Malaysia

10th March 2017 - Fried Kway Teow. Or better known as "char kway teow" by the locals, is among one of the favorites fried noodle dish for the local Chinese Malaysian . It was such a favorite that the Malays did their own halal version of it as well excluding the pork ingredient.

Truth be told, not every single plate of "char kway teow" is the same. The 2 most common ones are the Penang Fried Kway Teo which are lighter in color and our Klang Valley ones, which are darker in color. Common ingredients such as, prawns, bean sprouts, fish cakes, small claps, egg and others can be found in both variant. Best served on top of the banana leave. Sometime you might even find "char kway teow" with duck egg. Which is not that widely available.

You might be surprise that the best "char kway teow" out there are not those served in a 5 star restaurant. Good "char kway teow" can be found on some of the rundown old street stall or even in "Pasar Malam" (night market). And the most common place you can find is at the hawker center (Chinese version) or food courts (halal version)

So the next time you visit Malaysia. Don't forget to give "char kway teow" a try.

Resort World Genting Highlands Pahang Malaysia - 6th Feb 2017

6th Feb 2017 - Resorts World Genting. Or better known as Genting Highlands by the locals. Has been crowned the Guinness World record for having the largest number of rooms. In particular, the First World hotel itself packs a whopping 7000 plus rooms at its disposal. 

The whole Genting Highland experience took a massive reboot within the year of 2016 till 2017. With the original Genting Theme Park being scrapped in 2014 and replaced with Fox Studio's very own theme park estimated to be ready in another 1 or 2 years time, hopefully. 

2017 was an exciting and refreshing year to visit Genting Highlands with the introduction of Sky Avenue, a newly build shopping complex which brings the shopping and dining experience to the next level putting the First World Plaza to shame. A lot has been changed within 2016 till 2017. Oh, and not to forget, the revamped cable car experience.

From the current state that we are able to see. With shops in First World Plaza hinting us with moving out sales and closing down sales, Nike Factory Outlet in particular. High chances we might see a whole revamp for First World Plaza soon.

Price was fair and the portions are quite big.

Parasailing at Pantai Tengah, Langkawi Island Malaysia

Feb 2017 - Looking for something thrilling to do while you are in Langkawi Island? How about parasailing?

At approximately around RM150.00 depending on the season and a flying duration of approx 5 to 10 minutes. Thrill seekers can now enjoy the beautiful view from the sky overlooking the coastline of Pantai Tengah (Beach Middle). To add on with a better experience, do it when its about to sun set and you will be taken to a few minutes of breath raking view.

Parasailing activities counters and booth can be found once you have reached Pantai Tengah. There are a few operators and the best is to ask around and choose the ones that you feel comfortable with. Get their phone numbers and arrange for a time. Recommended to do it during the sun set.
